Dive team releases SHOCKING video of moment missing California teen is found — in back seat of submerged SUV

A volunteer dive team called Adventures with Purpose (AWP) has released shocking video footage showing the moment the team discovered the body of missing teenager Kiely Rodni inside a submerged vehicle in a reservoir near Truckee, California.

Kiely went missing from a high school graduation party at Prosser Family Campground on August 6. The Oregon-based dive team used sonar to locate Rodni’s Honda CR-V approximately 55 feet from the shore and 14 feet below the surface of Prosser Lake on August 21.

In the newly released video, diver Nick Rinn can be seen swimming around the back of the upside-down vehicle to confirm that the license plate matched that of the missing girl’s 2013 silver Honda. He then continues around the side of the car and reports finding “human remains.”

“I see a pair of shoes in the back. I’m moving my way toward the back window,” Rinn tells team member Doug Bishop. “I’m moving my way toward the back window. I have just confirmed there are human remains in the vehicle … the passenger window is broken out, it appears. Rear driver side window is halfway down.”

After returning to the surface, Rinn adds, “She’s in the back of the vehicle. She’s not in the driver’s seat. It looks suspicious to me. Vehicle’s upside down. One window is halfway down, one window is all the way down.”

The Placer County sheriff-coroner’s office confirmed that the body discovered in the vehicle is that of 16-year-old Kiely Rodni, though the cause of death has not been released.

While it was confirmed that Kiely’s body was in the back seat of the SUV when discovered, it was also confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt, leading some to conclude that the body had naturally shifted position in the submerged vehicle. But members of the AWC dive team remain unconvinced.

The video titled “How We FOUND Kiely Rodni: MURDER or ACCIDENT?” documents the moment the search team discovered the missing girl in the submerged SUV.

“Family, friends, and the entire Truckee community have been left seeking answers leading up to her disappearance in what has become one of the most extensively searched missing person cases in California state history – encompassing 18 agencies and over 19,000 search & rescue hours,” the video is captioned.

“We are honored to serve Kiely’s family to help bring closure during these hard times. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the Rodni-Nieman family so that healing can begin and more answers be brought to light in the weeks and months ahead.”

Kiely’s case currently remains an active, ongoing investigation into the exact circumstances leading to her death.
