The House Armed Services subcommittee held a hearing Thursday with the aim of exploring the deleterious impacts of DEI on the readiness, lethality, and cohesion of the U.S. military.
Committee members on the House Military Personnel Subcommittee seized upon the opportunity to ask Under Secretary of Defense Gil Cisneros about his underling, who made headlines in September for advancing both DEI and racism at the Pentagon.
Cisneros noted that despite issuing a torrent of anti-white remarks online, Kelisa Wing, DEI czar for the education wing of the Department of Defense, will not face any disciplinary action.
What is the background?
TheBlaze previously reported that Kelisa Wing, then-chief officer of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the education wing of the Department of Defense, had been outed for spouting anti-white remarks online.
In one instance, the self-described “woke administrator” wrote, “I’m so exhausted at these white folx in these [professional development] sessions.”
“This lady actually had the CAUdacity to say that black people can be racist too,” Wing’s post continued. “… I had to stop the session and give Karen the BUSINESS … we are not the majority, we don’t have power.”
While Cisneros was unable to define “CAUdacity” for Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Thursday, Dictionary.com notes that “CAUdacity,” a combination of “Caucasian” and “audacity,” is a racially charged term used to express frustration about white people and their supposedly “shameless displays” of privilege and racism.
On another occasion, Wing wrote, “If another Karen tells me about her feelings … I might lose it …”
Wing appears to use “Karen” as a racial slur against white women, calling former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos “queen of Karens” and former President Donald Trump the “whole boy version of a Karen.”
Wing has also proclaimed that she is “exhausted by 99% of the white men in education and 95% of the white women. Where can I get a break from white nonsense for a while?”
In addition to venting her identitarian frustrations online, Wing has also penned leftist propaganda targeting children. She coauthored the books “What Is White Privilege?” “What Is Black Lives Matter?” “What Is Anti-Racism?” and “What Does It Mean to Defund the Police?”
An OpenTheBooks Substack report revealed that approximately 606 copies of Wing’s agitprop had made their way into at least 45 DOD schools.
Appointed DEI chief at the Department of Defense Education Activity in 2021, Wing’s stated goal is to “tear down the system” in education, reported Fox News Digital.
She was allegedly put under investigation by the Pentagon on Sept. 17 over her racist tweets.
Consequence-free racial acrimony
During the hearing on Thursday, Cisneros was prompted on multiple occasions to read Wing’s racist comments aloud.
When asked by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) whether Wing’s remarks were acceptable, Cisneros answered, “I do agree that that is not acceptable. It’s not condoned by … the Department of Defense.”
While the Department of Defense may not have condoned Wing’s remarks, Cisneros informed Stefanik in a March 21 letter that the Pentagon “determined the employee was speaking in a personal capacity; that the comments were posted on the employee’s personal social media account; and that workplace colleagues who were interviewed had not witnessed the employee make the same comments within the workplace.”
“As a result, the Director, DoDEA took no disciplinary action,” added Cisneros. “The Director, DoDEA concluded that it was appropriate for the employee to continue working for DODEA. Separately, as part of a headquarters restructuring, the employee was reassigned to another position that does not include diversity, equity, and inclusion-specific responsibilities.”
It is unclear whether Wing, in her new position, must work among racial groups that “exhaust” her.
Concerning the Pentagon’s decision to keep Wing in its employ, former CIA Director Mike Pompeo said the “decision makes obvious that the Biden administration agrees with Kelisa Wing and her statements on race.”
“This lack of accountability for her racially charged remarks are another sign that President Biden wants to make the Pentagon more about wokeness, green energy and racism than national defense and readiness. The men and women who serve deserve better,” added Pompeo.
Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) stated in his opening remarks, “That is what meritocracy provides: an opportunity for everyone regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, or gender to raise your right hand, to serve your country, and to succeed on hard work and determination, alone.”
Banks suggested that as a result of the “ever-expanding bureaucracy of Diversity Equity and Inclusion policies, regulations, and trainings,” meritocracy, which he had observed firsthand serving the Navy well, is at risk.
